Long Ago, before the gods were born...
In the far distant past, the two kingdoms of the world, the North and the South, had been at war for more than 500 years.

Once, in an era close to our own...
Lita Carter, a simple graduate student getting her masters in Museum Studies, has a fairly dull life (after all, what could be more boring than Museum Studies?).
Then one day her whole life is turned upside down with the appearance of Fakir, a man full of more questions than answers. Almost without a word, he whisks her away, giving her far more adventure than she had ever asked for (or wanted, for that matter).
Fakir explains to her that she is the avatar of an ancient goddess, blessed with powers beyond her wildest dreams. But these powers come at a price and there are people out there that would use her newly discovered abilities for evil.
These people, led by Special Agents Seth Golde and Iris Bates, chase after Lita and Fakir with single-minded determination, bent on catching up and taking Lita back to their boss, the mysterious Artemis Hightower.
